The ACP Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is a licensed registered nurse with advanced specialized training in the administration of anesthesia. The ACP Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) administers, monitors, and adjusts anesthetic doses to individual patients during surgery and other procedures.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Assesses patients before anesthesia including analyzing medical history and planning anesthesia delivery.
Administers various types of anesthesia including inhalational, intravenous, regional anesthetics based on anesthetic plan. Performs any necessary invasive procedures including insertion of catheters as needed.
Observes and records all patient functions being continuously monitored and evaluates need for ancillary drugs to maintain normal functioning.
Documents for patient record all relevant assessment, care, and monitoring data.
Ensures availability of required supplies and equipment before anesthetic procedures.
Educates patients, families, and staff on anesthesia aspects related to conditions and diseases. Reassures patient before procedure. Accompanies to recovery area to ensure condition satisfactory.

Education/Training/Requirements
Completion of nursing course, graduate of an accredited school of nursing, graduate of an accredited school of anesthesia.
Minimum of two years of nursing experience, preferably one year of prior experience as a certified registered nurse anesthetist.
Current unexpired Virginia Nursing License.
Current unexpired certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
