Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all aspects of the financial department of the group including the development and administration of accounting and financial policies on finance, accounting, insurance, internal controls, budget, auditing, payroll, benefits, and claims processing.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Interacts with clinic management staff in developing the strategic plan and its financial planning component.
- Prepares the annual budget. Analyzes, prepares and presents monthly financial statements to management, owners and the Board.
- Reviews departmental financial statements with administrators, provides assistance and present information at meetings as requested. Monitors departmental budgetary performance and internal controls.
- Develops and implements financial policies and procedures and ensures compliance.
- Directs and coordinates reimbursement, patient accounting and general accounting, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, claims processing and cashiering.
- Develops and maintains effective systems of general accounting and cost determination.
- Develops department objectives, establishes staffing patterns and organizes the work of department.
- Supervises the analysis of costs and makes rate recommendations to ensure appropriate income/cash flow.
- Reviews billing/collection patterns and makes corrective recommendations.
- Interprets and enforces third-party payer rules and regulations, including Medicare requirements. Ensures related necessary cost reporting/billing is performed.
- Interacts with Information Technology Department on computer operations related to financial activities.
- Selects, trains, orients and supervises departmental personnel. Recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
- Reviews departmental performance and ensures compliance with fiscal governmental reporting requirements, including tax reports.
- Manages and evaluates performance of supervisors to ensure quality of service and technical expertise of staff.
- Maintains strictest of confidentiality.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Highly knowledgeable of financial and compliance issues in ambulatory care environment including experience in financial and reporting requirements in large complex group settings.
- Strong analytical skills in the areas of finance, budgets, utilization management, quality assurance, and regulatory laws affecting physician practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills which enable individual to interact with physicians in multiple specialties, as well as office managers and other employees within the organization.
- Must be a team player, able to work well with site employees, physicians and other members of management team.
- Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the employment agreement.
Education / Training / Requirements
- Bachelor Degree in accounting or related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or Masters in Business Administration (MBA).
- Minimum of five years senior-level management experience in medical practice management.
- Revenue Cycle experience.
