THE JOB
The Leadman of Terminal Operations will be responsible for overseeing the work direction of employees involved in terminal operations to include the handling, transfer and storage of bulk liquid commodities at the Tidewater Snake River Terminal and associated facilities. The activities associated with this position include but are not limited to product handling using pipeline, rail, marine and truck loading, unloading and transfer assets. This position will also serve as a key member of the Tidewater Terminal Company (TTC) operations team and will function with the level of autonomy necessary and decision-making authority relative to the position for performing assigned responsibilities. This position will also become a member of the Tidewater Spill Response team and will be expected to work any schedule in a union environment. This role will also:
- Function as a primary internal and external customer contact for field operations. Communicate with customers, contractors and vendors to direct day to day field operations. Recognize and respond to irregular or confrontational situations and conditions.
- Use mechanical and electronic equipment to monitor and measure product movements.
- Maintain oversight of daily and forecasted field operations to assure safe and timely handling and movement of customer products. Work closely with TTC and Tidewater Barge Lines schedulers, Tidewater business development staff, railroad contacts and TTC contractors and vendors to ensure necessary staff and equipment are available to manage daily business needs
- Provide direction and/or participate in the handling of both hazardous and non-hazardous liquid products. The products include refined petroleum fuels, fertilizer, agricultural chemicals, and various non-hazardous chemicals such as calcium chloride and calcium chloride additives.
- Support Tidewater’s health and safety, asset integrity and quality assurance programs by directing assigned facility inspections and product quality testing.
- Assist in incident investigations, employee training, personnel competence evaluations, issuing work assignments and other activities as assigned.
- Assist in performing operations office activities when necessary.

THE CATCH
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Journeyman or similar position responsibilities in a terminal environment required.
Demonstrated knowledge of all barges, railcars, terminal equipment, and procedures to transfer bulk liquids. Examples of terminal equipment include piping systems, pumps, storage tanks, gauging and loading/unloading equipment, product hoses, valves, barges, and laboratory equipment.
Ability to be qualified in emergency response and spill procedures.
- Ability to become an Operator Qualified (OQ) person and to obtain and maintain a valid TWIC Card in accordance with Department of Homeland Security and TSA. Maintain current, valid Coast Guard licenses and documents authorizing Person-In-Charge status for the transfer of petroleum and other dangerous liquids and to meet any additional standards required by any other authorized regulatory agency.
- Communication skills necessary to work collaboratively and maintain effecting working relationships, influence change, resolve problems, and interact with personnel at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to obtain a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC).
Maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
Ability to climb a ladder and work at various heights (up to 75 feet).
Ability to travel to other job sites including, but not limited, to Umatilla, Vancouver, Boardman and Wilma as required.
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Physical Requirements:
o Pulls, pushes and/or lifts a variety of equipment and parts requiring forces up to 100 pounds. Lifting may occur in awkward positions while working in cramped quarters.
o Work may be performed in a shop environment, dock, and on tugboats and barges as job duties require. May be exposed to loud operating machinery, inclement weather conditions, working around water, slip/fall hazards, electrical and mechanical hazards, foreign body hazards, chemicals, vapors and dust and fumes.
