Full-time position for community-based substance abuse counselor to provide individual, family and group substance abuse counseling to at-risk adolescents and their families throughout Tidewater. Hours vary, position requires flexible hours to include morning, afternoon and evening hours. Majority of work hours required for the position are between the hours of 10:30am-8:30pm Mon-Fri with some weekend hours if necessary. The Commission reimburses for mileage and compensates counselors for travel, administrative and case management time.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions for individuals with substance abuse issues
- Develop and implement treatment plans based on client needs and goals
- Utilize behavior management techniques to address challenging behaviors
- Collect and analyze data to monitor client progress and treatment effectiveness
- Provide education and support to clients and their families regarding substance abuse and recovery
- Utilize evidence-based practices, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, in counseling sessions
Credentials:
- Certification or licensure as a Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC or CSACe)
- Experience working with individuals with substance abuse disorders
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines
Preferred Credentials:
- Certification or licensure as a Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC or CSACe)
- 3-5 years experience working with individuals with substance abuse disorders
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services discipline from an accredited institution and experience working with at-risk youth and/or providing counseling
