What are the responsibilities and job description for the UPK Teacher position at Tiegerman School/ Community Services?
It is the responsibility of the UPK Classroom Teacher to provide curriculum and instruction aligned with state learning standards and students’ IEPs (when applicable). The UPK Teacher provides a nurturing and supportive learning environment that meets the needs of each individual student, monitors student progress and behavior and works collaboratively with parents and other members of the school staff. NYSED Teacher Certification is required. The UPK Teacher reports directly to the Coordinators and the Principal. UPK Teacher is an exempt position. Tiegerman Elementary School is looking for a UPK teacher to work in an integrated classroom.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise students in the classroom and all other areas of the school building
- Align curriculum and instruction with the Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core and developmentally appropriate thematic units
- Adapt instruction and materials to meet the individual needs, strengths and interests of all students. Review, understand and implement each student’s Individualized Education Plan (when applicable)
- Participate in the development of Individualized Education Plans to address the needs of individual students and attend annual CPSE/transition meetings (when applicable)
- Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessment of student progress toward learning objectives and individual goals in order to inform instruction and provide feedback to students, parents, administrators and school districts
- Write and submit lesson plans and unit plans, annual classroom reports and other assigned paperwork in accordance with established guidelines and schedules
- Manage student behavior in the classroom according to the established classroom management practices and Behavior Intervention Plans (when applicable)
- Maintain the confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA and school policies
- Report incidents (i.e., accidents, unsafe conditions, suspected abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the health and welfare of students and the safety of the school environment in accordance with the state regulations and school policies
- Participate in various staff meetings as scheduled
Certifications Required: SWD B-2
