Composite Propeller Technician
Position Summary: The Composite Propeller Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and modification of composite propellers used in aircraft, marine, or other specialized industries. This role requires hands-on experience with composite materials, precision equipment, and the ability to work with various teams to ensure propellers meet safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspection & Assessment:
- Inspect composite propellers for signs of damage, wear, and performance issues.
- Evaluate and analyze propeller blades, hubs, and other components for cracks, delamination, or other structural defects.
- Use non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic testing and visual inspections to assess the integrity of propellers.
- Repair & Maintenance:
- Perform repairs on composite propellers by using specialized tools and techniques to restore them to original specifications.
- Refinish and resurface propellers, ensuring they meet required smoothness and aerodynamic standards.
- Fill cracks, fix chips, and re-laminate composite materials when necessary.
- Replace damaged or worn components such as seals and bearings.
- Fabrication:
- Manufacture and assemble new composite propellers from raw materials.
- Utilize composite lay-up, molding, curing, and other advanced manufacturing processes to create propeller blades and parts.
- Work with design specifications and templates to ensure proper construction.
- Testing & Calibration:
- Conduct dynamic and static testing of propellers to ensure they perform according to technical standards.
- Balance propellers using specialized equipment and techniques to reduce vibrations and ensure optimal performance.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, maintenance, and testing for each propeller serviced.
- Document all work performed, including the identification of any issues and the solutions applied.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations such as FAA or other relevant certifying bodies.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with engineers, designers, and quality control teams to ensure propellers meet the desired specifications.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members regarding work status, issues, and recommendations.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all workplace safety procedures and standards when working with tools, equipment, and materials.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in all aspects of work.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications or training in composite materials or aircraft/marine mechanics preferred.
- Proven experience working with composite materials and propeller systems.
- Proficiency in using precision tools and diagnostic equipment such as NDT instruments, balance machines, and sanding tools.
- Strong understanding of composite propeller manufacturing, repair techniques, and testing procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and work instructions.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines for working with composites and hazardous materials.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in composite material technologies or similar qualifications.
- Experience in the aerospace or marine industries.
- Knowledge of specific regulatory standards, such as FAA regulations for aviation propellers.
Working Conditions:
