What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at Tigertail Lake Recreational Center of Broward College?
Join our extremely dynamic team at Tigertail Lake Recreational Center, part of Broward College, in Dania Beach, FL. We are situated at 580 Gulf Stream Way, conveniently located off I-95 and Griffin Road. We're on the lookout for dedicated lifeguards to add to our crew.
This is a part-time position, offering up to (but no more than) 30 hours per week. Generally, we are busiest on weekends and holidays, but summers are busy nearly every day. We work with your schedule to make sure you have a happy work-life balance, or if you have special requirements (e.g. school, another job, etc.)
Earnings depend on the shifts you work. Lifeguards typically earn an average of $18 to $20 per hour, depending on the specific responsibilities assigned each day. The more skills you acquire, the more opportunities open up for additional income. We do often have shifts that pay $25-30 an hour available to specially-trained staff. Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older and eligible to work in the United States
- Must be able to swim and meet the American Red Cross minimum prerequisites for Basic Lifeguarding.
- Must comfortable in the water, especially considering this a lake and has some very deep water.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification preferred; training available
- Waterfront and waterpark experience a plus but not required.
- Excellent observation skills and high attention to detail.
- Experience in taking initiative without being prompted.
- Proficient in interacting with people of various ages and from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written
- Helpful, but not required: experience with ropes courses, sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving and/or teambuilding facilitation
Responsibilities
- Monitoring designated areas to recognize signs of danger
- Explaining and enforcing rules, regulations and policies to ensure safety of patrons
- Performing first aid procedures
- Responding to emergencies and rescuing swimmers in danger of drowning
- Monitor weather reports closely to ensure safety of guests
- Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of all areas
- Maintaining records and reports
- Additional duties as required.
