Child Forensic Interviewer/Family Support Case Advocate
SUPERVISED BY: CAAC Coordinator
BASIC FUNCTION: The Family Support Case Manager/Forensic Interviewer is responsible for promoting a child friendly, supportive environment at the Children’s Advocacy Center by providing support, information, and community resources for children and their families who must participate in an investigation of child abuse or child witness to a crime. In addition, the Forensic Interviewer is responsible for conducting legally sound, developmentally appropriate forensic interviews with children when there are concerns of abuse or neglect.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences or 3-5 years’ experience in a related field.
- Highly motivated, possessing organization skills with attention to details, and ability to handle multiple responsibilities effectively and with discretion.
- Independent worker and able to function as a team player with initiative and flexibility.
- Knowledge of child abuse system and the family dynamics of child abuse.
- Excellent people and communication skills.
- Computer literacy and proficiency.
- Willingness to attend related training in child abuse and victim advocacy.
- Must pass drug test and criminal/child abuse registry background check.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide crisis support to children and their families who visit the Children’s Advocacy Center to include but not limited to: greeting families, explaining role of the Children’s Advocacy Center in the process of investigation, being aware of reason for the child’s visit, supporting and providing system education to the non-offending parent when the child is interviewed, supporting and supervising children, providing information concerning the system as required, and providing community referrals.
- Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment.
- Participate in team preparation for the interview process to include gathering case information and preparing intake forms.
- Prepare, update, provide and review Parent Resource Packets and other necessary information to visiting parents.
- Provide resource referrals to children and their families and facilitate linkage when necessary.
- Provide support for court or Grand Jury to children and non-offending parents as needed and requested.
- Ability to conduct forensic interviews with child victims.
- Testify in court on behalf of the interviews conducted.
- Participate in peer review, and ongoing training in the field of forensic interviewing.
- Provide phone follow-up support for children and families.
- Track case developments for review at internal case review process.
- Develop, update, and maintain files and available information on community resources.
- Actively promote multidisciplinary approach to investigations by assisting with facilitation and attendance at “Case Review” process.
- Coordinate and provide extended crisis support for non-offending parents and victims.
- Participate and promote forensic interviewer peer review process.
- Attend relevant training as requested.
- Serve as backup to the MDT/Intake Coordinator as needed.
- Other tasks as assigned.
CLERICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other clerical duties, as assigned by the CAAC Coordinator or Executive Director, include but not limited to:
- typing
- correspondence and reports,
- developing and maintaining forms,
- bulk mailing, etc.
OTHER DUTIES RELATED TO DIRECT VICTIM SERVICE AND ADVOCAY AS ASSIGNED
Job Type: On-call Part-Time, At-Will.
Pay: Commensurate to referral frequency and Interviewer availability. Hourly wage: $50 per hour. Not to exceed 20 hours per week.
Interviews are conducted typically during TFCC operating hours of 8am to 5pm and could be arranged in the evenings between 5:00pm and 7:00pm or on weekends between 8am and 3pm, depending on the urgency of the interview and the availability of the interviewer.
