We are seeking an experienced Fiber Technician to join our Installation & Maintenance (I&M) team, supporting fiber optic installation, maintenance, and repair services.

The Fiber Technician is responsible for installing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fiber optic network services. This role involves working both independently and with I&M teams to ensure high-quality fiber deployments while adhering to company standards and safety regulations. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with fiber optic installations, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
Responsibilities
- Install, splice, test, and repair fiber optic cables for residential and commercial customers.
- Diagnose and resolve fiber optic issues, perform OTDR testing, and conduct signal loss analysis to ensure optimal performance.
- Interact with customers during installations and service calls, ensuring a smooth experience and addressing technical inquiries.
- Adhere to all OSHA and company safety standards while working in the field, including proper handling of fiber optic cables and equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance checks and preventive measures to ensure network reliability.
- Maintain detailed records of installations, service calls, test results, and inventory usage.
- Work closely with I&M vendors, Network Operations, and Engineering teams to coordinate service requests and resolve issues efficiently.
- Utilize specialized tools such as fiber splicing machines, OTDRs, and power meters to complete fiber installations and repairs.
- Ensure contractor-installed fiber meets company standards, splicing guidelines, and safety protocols.
- Identify deficiencies, document corrective actions, and ensure resolution.
- Conduct spot checks, maintain QC reports, and provide feedback to contractors and management.
- Improve contractor efficiency, reduce rework, and maintain installation quality.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 2 years in fiber optics installation, telecom, cable, or related technical field.
- Experience with fiber splicing, OTDR testing, and fiber optic troubleshooting. Familiarity with Wi-Fi access points (Nokia preferred) is a plus.
- Ability to diagnose fiber network issues and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform work at heights or in confined spaces.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use field service management software.
- Must be comfortable working in the field daily, performing hands-on technical work, and ensuring quality standards are met.
- Must be willing to travel within Florida as needed and work variable schedules when required.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
