Summary

The Transportation Driver is a member of the personal care staff and is responsible for assuring that Community-sponsored scheduled transportation is implemented appropriately and timely, with resident safety and security the primary priority. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Successfully meets all requirements of Transportation Driver position, including Driver Record report; meets and completes ongoing training and driver requirements.
  • Transports Community residents to and from medical appointments, activities, and shopping errands using Community-owned vehicle.
  • Reads the transportation schedule daily and makes sure all scheduled appointments can be met. Encourages residents to schedule at least 24 hours in advance of any needed appointment. Reminds residents that medical appointments, activities and shopping are to be scheduled on designated days whenever possible.
  • Is flexible for unscheduled transportation needs in an emergency.
  • Revises schedule accordingly in order to stay with and assist residents who are unable to access community and appointments independently.
  • Completes routine periodic vehicle inspection checks and informs Executive Director of any maintenance problems or safety issues that need to be addressed.
  • Is thoroughly familiar with fire, missing persons and other emergency procedures; Follows Community policy and procedures detailed in fire and disaster plans.
  • All other duties that assigned by any member of management.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Has current state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Requires minimal supervision; is a self-starter
  • Displays mature behavior and attitude in speech and action; demonstrates consistently pleasant demeanor, tone of voice, supports the philosophy and approach to resident care and passenger safety used by the Community.
  • Performs all tasks with grace; works cooperatively with supervisors and displays willingness to assist co-workers.
  • Able to do occasional heavy lifting of residents (up to 80 lbs.).
  • Able to spend long periods on feet or driving, and to react quickly in any situation.

Training and Experience

Has familiarity with and willingness to work with the elderly population; must have approved driving record; successful completion of Mosaic Management, Driver Safety and Training Course; successful completion of Driver Education Training Course preferred, but not necessary; previous experience in a driving position preferred, but not necessary.

Pre-service dementia care training is required prior to hire.

A certificate of completion shall be provided.

Exposure to blood/bodily fluids is likely.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability to spend long periods of time on feet and to ambulate quickly.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, moving of equipment, bending and stooping.
  • Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, or lift up to eighty (80) pounds or in excess of eighty (80) pounds with assistance.
  • Must have ability to operate van lift.
