The Role:
TIME is seeking a Correspondent to join the health and science team. We are looking for a sharp thinker who is curious and driven to cover daily health news—especially as it relates to readers’ lives—in a fast-paced global news environment. The ability to nimbly explain topics related to medicine, science, and health care in a readable and engaging way is a must.
The reporter should know how to read a scientific study and have a broad understanding of how to cover topics related to medical and health science, including mental health, health care, nutrition, public and global health, and more. The candidate should be well-sourced, clear-eyed about scientific evidence, and able to come up with useful story ideas with fresh angles.
Health and science reporting is at the heart of TIME’s journalistic mission. This is an exciting opportunity for an enterprising, thoughtful, and creative correspondent to join our growing team and help further advance and innovate our coverage.
This role can be based in New York City or London.
Responsibilities:
- Pitch and write daily stories that stand out in a crowded coverage landscape utilizing enterprising reporting, explanatory journalism, and scoops of both fact and ideas
- Break news and quickly respond to breaking news with cogent analysis that further develops or finds new angles into an unfolding story
- Report and write service-oriented and evergreen stories that can help readers make smart decisions about their health and well-being
- Keep up to date on the latest research and trends within health and wellness, while being skilled at parsing what is legitimate and what is bunk in a field with no shortage of unsubstantiated claims
- Contribute to health-related newsletters, including Health Matters
- Contribute to TIME’s newsroom-wide special projects and editorial franchises, ranging from TIME100 to Next Generation Leaders to Person of the Year
- Collaborate with other departments to tell stories in new and innovative ways
Qualifications:
- Experience covering health and science in the U.S. and/or internationally
- Proven writing and reporting skills
- Have a facility in reading and quickly assessing studies published in scientific journals
- Experience cultivating sources and a willingness to pick up the phone and call sources or cold-call potential new sources to break news or develop new stories
- Demonstrated record of idea generation; storytelling across media formats a plus
- Enthusiasm for being part of the day-to-day news conversation, and in carving out a unique beat that helps drive the conversation around health forward in a meaningful way

Location:
This is a hybrid role. Eligible candidates for the role must be within a commutable distance of TIME’s New York City or London office upon hire and may be expected to be physically present as needed (typically 3 days/week).
