The Role: 

TIME is seeking an Editorial Fellow to join its breaking news desk for a full-time, paid, 12-month Fellowship. This opportunity is ideal for a developing journalist eager to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced and collaborative editorial environment. The Fellow will work closely with editors and reporters across team, while mostly contributing to TIME’s daily news coverage. This position offers exposure to every step of the editorial process—from pitching and writing to research, fact-checking, and beyond.

 

Responsibilities: 

• Pitch and write original, well-reported news stories across a variety of topics, including politics, world affairs, culture, technology, and business
• Report under deadline pressure, with strong news judgment and the ability to quickly synthesize complex information
• Conduct interviews and build a strong network of sources
• Support the newsroom by fact-checking and verifying information 
• Collaborate with editors and contribute to TIME’s high editorial standards for accuracy, clarity, and fairness
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and editorial brainstorms

 

Qualifications: 

• A curious, driven, and detail-oriented emerging journalist with a passion for impactful storytelling
• Experienced in reporting and writing on deadline, with bylines in student media, internships, freelance work, or professional publications
• Familiar with editorial fact-checking best practices
• Committed to the values of accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Interested in a wide range of topics and eager to adapt to a global 24/7 newsroom
• Proficient in digital publishing tools and online research
• Familiarity with TIME’s voice, mission, and editorial style

Location: 

This is a hybrid role. Eligible candidates for the role must be within a commutable distance of TIME’s New York City office upon hire and may be expected to be physically present as needed (typically 3 days/week).
