Job Title: Cashier-Central Cashier
Department: Front End
Report to: Front End Manager
Starting rate of pay: $16.25/hr
**Kaheka location starting rate of pay: $17.00/hr
Position summary: Provides customer service to our customers, while operating cash register to ring up various items in exchange for currency.
Job duties:
- Greets customers when within ten feet and four seconds of contact, by name if possible during transactions
- Assists customers while ringing up/weighing items for purchase
- Bags like groceries together, while using the least number of bags
- Checks for bottom of the basket
- Verify/balance register till at the beginning and end of shift
- Accept/Verify/Process payment from customer in the form of cash, credit, debit, ebt, and check
- Verify/Process, WIC Transaction purchase orders, merchandise certificates and coupons
- Check identification for tobacco and liquor purchases, as well as payment by credit card and check by following established company procedures
- Register accuracy, knows/ carries out proper register procedures to meet company performance standards, price integrity
- Refills bag wells in front end, keep workstation clean and organized by dusting, wiping, and sweeping area.
- Performs duties of a courtesy clerk
- Performs other related duties as needed as assigned by manager
Capabilities:
- Stand for long periods of time
- Carry up to 40 pounds, frequent motions of arms and hands to ring up and bag groceries
- Push and pull up to seven shopping carts during retrieval
- Use proper safety procedures
- Able to listen to directions and follow through independently
- Good communication and observation skills
Job Skills:
- Previous experience working with the public
- Basic mathematical knowledge and cash handling experience preferred
- Working knowledge of produce codes required, while able to differentiate between different produce products
Environment:
- Air condition while in store, subject to outside conditions of heat, rain, and wind while retrieving wagons/helping customers to their car, and chill temperatures if products need to be retrieved from chill
- Very fast paced
