Position Overview & Schedule
Timeline
This position is open until filled. Please see our other open position, titled, "Ceramics Instructor: Wheel Throwing (Youth)" for more details on our current open position. Candidates that can fill our year-round position will be prioritized (starting this Spring, and transitioning into Summer Camp schedule). However, if you are only available for the summer, and are qualified and interested in this very fun seasonal position, please still apply for this Summer Camp role!
Summer Camp Session Dates
- Monday - Friday 8:30am - 12:30pm (Youth Wheel Throwing Summer Camps)
- Every other Saturday 8:30am - 1:00pm (Birthday Parties)
- Closed week of July 4

Please note: The Summer Camp schedule starts May 27th. The weeks of May 12th & May 19th are reserved for Summer Camp training and other between session tasks. The schedule for those two weeks are TBD, with more information coming. Summer Camp schedule ends August 12.
This role includes but is not limited to:
Greeting students, facilitating pick up, and parent communication: Greeting students as they arrive for class and helping them get settled in the studio; learning students’ names; facilitating pick up or students leaving at the end of camp; communicating relevant information to parents
Teaching wheel throwing: implementing effective teaching strategies; working with artists who are feeling frustrated or need extra support with empathy and kindness; managing set up and clean up of materials and supplies
Creating a safe, supportive, and fun studio environment: Showing up each day with warmth, enthusiasm, and excitement for your students and team; maintaining an aesthetically pleasing and inviting environment; maintaining student safety; building connections and supporting peer-to-peer relationships
Setting up, breaking down, and prepping art materials and supplies: Prepping and resetting materials; breaking down and putting away materials and supplies; delegating similar tasks to Studio Assistants
The Tinker Way: Implementing Tinker’s values, and adhering to Tinker’s curriculum, structure, and style
Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements:
- Advanced proficiency in wheel throwing, and proficiency in handbuilding/altering the wheel thrown form
- Previous experience in a ceramics studio setting required. While this position doesn't include much/any kiln room management, experience loading/unloading/managing kilns, and other ceramics equipment is required.
- A degree in studio art, with a focus on ceramics is strongly preferred. (Please still apply if you feel you have equivalent experience without a degree).
- Previous experience working with and teaching children ceramic art, and ideally wheel throwing, is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and teammates
- Enjoyment for being a part of a team in a lively and busy studio setting
- Excellent people skills and enjoyment for being around people
- Genuine enjoyment for teaching and supporting students
- Ability to efficiently prioritize and with a positive work ethic
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs
The successful candidate will: have stamina, be responsible and creative; have a positive attitude and work ethic; be a team player; maintain a high level of professionalism; be successful at identifying and relating to the feelings and perspectives of others; have awareness of and attentiveness to individual needs of students.
Training/Onboarding and Compensation:
- Pay: $25-$28/hour, DOE
- Required onboarding & training pay: $15.57/hr: Asynchronous virtual onboarding = ~2-4 hours; in person onboarding = ~4 hours // Additional training, DOE
