What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Charge Nurse - Day Shift position at Tippah County Health & Rehab?
Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility:
Provides nursing care to the residents as directed or prescribed by the physician and in accordance with established facility protocol, local, state, and federal regulations. Help to maintain a positive physical and mental health environment for the residents. To lead and/or direct licensed, certified and non-professional staff in the delivery of direct resident care. Responsible for 8 hour shifts as scheduled and subject to overtime and call back as required by Tippah County Nursing Home (Health & Rehab).
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities
1. Assess the overall status of the resident, documenting all identified medical needs in the medical record with a plan for treatment and/or resolution.
2. Monitor the resident’ activity and provide nursing care in accordance with physician orders, care plans, local, state, and federal regulations as well as established facility protocols.
3. Coordinate, prepare for and assist with new admissions, transfers and discharges.
4. Communicate with residents, family members, and other health care professionals regarding the status of the resident.
5. Lead and monitor licensed personnel and other professional and non-professional staff in the delivery of resident care.
6. Schedule job assignments and duties.
7. Take report at the beginning of the shift in order to receive an update on the residents under your care and ensure that report is completed in a timely and appropriate manner on each resident, with documentation reflecting as such. This process shall be a primary focus at the start of each shift to ensure that the resident’s needs are addressed promptly and accurately.
8. Supervise and evaluate the overall performance of the nursing staff.
9. Monitor the environment and care practices of personnel in order to ensure compliance with established fire, disaster, safety, infection control, and blood borne pathogen programs.
10. Assist with developing and implementing written care plans for individual residents.
11. Be observant for changes in a resident’s condition and notify the Director of Nursing or administrative on-call staff and family.
12. Make daily rounds to resident care areas in order to observe nursing staff as they perform assigned duties in accordance with established facility protocols.
13. Be knowledgeable about and promote resident rights.
14. Prevent abuse, neglect and exploitation of the residents.
15. Promote a safe, clean environment in which the residents may live.
16. Check the chart in order to be aware of changes in the residents’ conditions and/or plans of treatment and accurately complete daily required chart checks, as prescribed by the Director of Nursing.
17. Assist with MDS and Care Plan meetings, as indicated.
18. Become a participating facility team member with the residents as first priority.
19. Order medications from the pharmacy, as indicated, in a timely and accurate manner. Administrative staff shall be notified of any barrier that causes a delay in appropriately processing orders timely and accurately.
20. Carry out all physician orders, including labs, respiratory therapy, and x-ray requests.
21. Provide routine nursing documentation as per established facility protocols.
22. Answer the telephone properly, and in a timely manner, using respectful tones and professional responses.
23. Complete the Good Catch Form or Occurrence Report on all residents, employees, and visitors as the need arises. Report any occurrences to the Director of Nursing or Administrator.
24. Leave the nurses’ station and medication cart clean and well stocked for the coming shift.
25. Count controlled drugs at the beginning and end of every shift.
26. Any other duties and responsibilities, as requested by the Director of Nursing or Administrator.

Pay: $27.00 - $28.00 per hour
