Incumbent serves as part-time and/or seasonal worker for the Parks and Recreation Department, responsible for maintaining the appearance of grounds and facilities.
DUTIES:
- Cleaning buildings, grounds and boat launches, removing litter, sweeping, cleaning/disinfecting bathrooms, replenishing supplies, emptying trash cans, and painting/staining as needed.
- Perform grounds maintenance, including but not limited to mowing/trimming, removing weeds, raking/blowing leaves, shoveling/raking gravel, trimming/removing trees and limbs, planting new shrubbery, and spreading salt on icy walkways. Apply pesticides and herbicides as needed.
- Assists in maintaining and repairing buildings and structures, including performing minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Makes minor repairs on equipment as needed during the season.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
I. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including sitting and walking at will, standing/walking for long periods, walking on uneven terrain, lifting/carrying objects weighing over 50 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, close and far vision, reaching, bending, climbing ladders and handling/grasping objects.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, read and follow chemical labels, and read and follow equipment operator and maintenance manuals.
- Working knowledge of equipment operations and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
- Ability to occasionally work extended, evening, and/or weekend hours.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work with co-workers and the public.
II. RESPONSIBILITY:
Repetitive duties performed according to specific instructions and guidelines, with priorities determined with supervisor. Incumbent’s work requires some care and skill to prevent damage to tools, property, and other individuals.
III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent reports directly to Maintenance Director and Superintendent.
IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Incumbent’s duties involve sitting/mowing and/or standing/walking for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing over 50 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, close and far vision, reaching, bending at waist, climbing ladders, and handling/grasping objects. Physical effort may be exerted for short periods, but strain is not prolonged.
V. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Incumbent performs duties inside and outside park facilities, involving exposure to normal hazards associated with driving, adverse weather conditions, power tools, cleaning chemicals, mowing equipment and working on ladders, for which safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others. Incumbent occasionally works extended, evening, and/or weekend hours.
