What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Counselor position at Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation?
Qualifications:
o Master’s degree in School Counseling.
o State certification or licensure as a school counselor.
o If not fully credentialed, willingness to receive credentials and apply for temporary
licensure with a strong foundation in secondary education/counseling.
o Knowledge of adolescent development, educational psychology, and mental health.
o Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
o Experience with academic advising, college/career planning, and crisis intervention and
working in a secondary school setting.
o Familiarity with student information systems and data tracking software.
o Training in mental health first aid, trauma-informed care, or suicide prevention.
Responsibilities:
- Assist students in setting and achieving academic/career goals, including course
selection, scheduling, and credit tracking for graduation.
- Guide students through college and career exploration, including post-secondary
planning, college applications, and scholarship opportunities.
- Assist students with standardized testing, including SAT, iLearn, and AP exams.
- Identify students in need of support and provide short-term counseling.
- Conduct individual and small group counseling sessions on various topics.
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504 Plan meetings to
support students with special needs.
- Participate in (MTSS) Multi-Tiered Systems of Support to analyze student performance
data to identify trends and address barriers to success.
- Respond to crisis situations, including threats to student safety, self-harm, or violence,
following school protocols.
- Lead dual enrollment processes partnering with higher education institutions and
support dual credit teachers.
- Perform all duties as assigned.
