Position Summary
The EL Teacher is responsible for instructing English Learners (ELs) to develop proficiency in English (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and providing comprehensive English Language Development (ELD) services. The role involves making academic content accessible through specialized instructional strategies. Must be Highly Qualified.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Instruction & Assessment: Plan and deliver differentiated ELD lessons; design/adapt materials; assess language acquisition; develop Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs).
- Record Keeping & Monitoring: Maintain EL cumulative files; monitor progress of current and exited EL students.
Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with classroom teachers, assistants, and staff; communicate effectively with parents; participate in parent events and required meetings.
- Compliance & Professional Growth: Plan/administer WIDA assessments (Screener, ACCESS); engage in relevant professional development.
- Other: Perform related duties as assigned.
Supplemental Support (Title III Focus)
- Implement and monitor progress for Science of Reading-based interventions.
- Provide targeted push-in support (small group, 1-on-1, vocabulary, comprehensible input strategies) in general education classes through collaboration with the classroom teacher, supplementing Lau plan requirements.
- Implement other district-approved programs for ELs.
Qualifications & Skills
- Licensed ENL/TOEL Teacher or Indiana Teaching License and willing to purse ENL/TOEL Licensure
- Excellent teaching skills, especially for language learners.
- Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong organizational and leadership qualities.
- Ability to multitask and relate to diverse cultures.
