Tipton Hurst is seeking an experienced candidate as Financial Controller who will plan and direct the accounting functions in providing financial information in making decisions. The individual should have extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and enjoy working in a fast-paced retail environment.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
- Implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Maintains the general ledger.
- Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
- Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifying deposits, and addressing inquiries from banks.
- Works with external auditors and provides the necessary information for the annual audit.
- Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
- As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required.
- Five years of accounting experience required.
- Highly proficient with accounting software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
