Position Summary
The EVS Porter position is responsible for emptying all trash receptacles from TRMC premises, offices, restrooms, parking lots and placing them in the proper disposal area. The Porter performs a variety of routine cleaning functions as assigned, to maintain a sanitary, attractive and orderly condition throughout all areas of the hospital. Understands and abides by regulatory standards around the separation, transportation, and disposal of waste (i.e. Bio-Waste, regular trash, etc.) Cooperative work attitude toward and with co-workers, management, patients, visitors, physicians, and ability to effectively communicate with others.
Essential Functions
- Assists in maintaining a healthy, clean, and safe environment for the patient and staff.
- Dusts and cleans furniture, fixtures, windowsills, vents, and related furnishings.
- Replenishes bathroom supplies of paper towels, soap, and other items from storage.
- Disposes of waste in specific containers as required (i.e. Bio-Waste) and regular trash.
- Operates mechanical equipment, such as vacuum cleaners and other carpet cleaning equipment after appropriate instructions.
- Cleans custodial equipment and storage areas.
- Arranges cleaning supplies and submits requests for needed supplies to the shift EVS Lead.
- Reports broken or inoperative equipment to Supervisor.
- Collects and places soiled linens in laundry collection area.
- Constantly on the lookout for areas that are not clean and demonstrate initiative to clean them.
- Must be able to work harmoniously with a variety of individual personalities, often in a high activity environment.
- Demonstrates consistent use of safety measures associated with chemicals and equipment.
- Greets patients and visitors courteously and professionally.
- Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety of patients.
- Uses time and resources to the best possible advantage for successful completion of job responsibilities.
- Strictly adheres to hospital policies regarding hand hygiene, universal precautions, and personal protective equipment.
- Uses proper body mechanics and safety devices to lift and transport safely.
- Participates in staff meetings, in-service programs and educations requirements as assigned.
- Communicates all pertinent information, including problems, concerns, or ideas to the Lead EVS Tech in a timely and effective manner.
- Promotes a constructive / positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to cooperate with and assist fellow TRMC team members.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Maintain a positive work demeanor.
- Ability to clearly and effectively articulate and present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
