Position Summary

The Medical Assistant provides patient care for clinic patients under direct supervision of a registered nurse, physician and / or practitioner, functions as primary liaison between patients, staff, and provider, and prepares patients for exams.

Essential Functions

• Assesses patient's general condition and takes vital signs and weight.
• Performs finger sticks / phlebotomy according to training.
• Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials and ensures cleanliness.
• Prepares list of needed medical supplies.
• Prepares equipment and supplies to aid provider during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
• Reinforces education to patient / family about diagnostic procedures, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.
• Greets and prepares patients for provider examination.
• Obtains appropriate information for preparation of visit and instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.
• Maintains / reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
• Records tests and examination results in patient's chart after reviewing by provider.
• Responds to / refers incoming treatment-related phone calls as advised by practitioners.
• Schedules referrals and tests.
• Maintains responsibility for follow-up and no shows per instructions of providers.
• Performs other related duties.
• Ability to demonstrate current competencies applicable to the position.
• Knowledge of basic nursing principles and protocols, and policies / procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality.
• Knowledge of medical chart reporting / records.
• Demonstrates the ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.
• Demonstrates the ability to use oral and written communication effectively.
• Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives.
• Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
• Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
