Position Summary
The Medical Lab Technician gathers information in order to help fellow staff members with diagnosing a patient. This can include carrying out tests related to immunology, chemistry, hematology, microbiology or blood bank.
Essential Functions
- Collect, prepare and analyze blood, urine and tissue samples and body fluids for analysis tests requested by authorized providers.
- Examine collected samples and identify any cell abnormalities.
- Maintain laboratory inventory levels and if necessary, place orders for new supplies.
- Prepare detailed reports about your test results and findings.
- Document and review tested data using current hospital information system
- Ensure all tissue samples are prepared for examination.
- Collaborate with pathologists.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Present test results to physicians.
- Determine normal and abnormal components of body fluids.
- Analyze blood cells by counting and identifying cells.
- Prepares blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions.
- Maintain laboratory equipment by doing scheduled maintenance and repairs as necessary.
- Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed.
- Provides medical technology information by answering questions and requests.
- Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects the hospital by keeping information confidential.
- Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related results tasks as needed.
- Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
- Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
- Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
