Position Summary
The Respiratory Therapist assesses, plans, performs, directs, and documents the delivery of age-specific patient care utilizing the Cardiopulmonary Care process set by accreditation standards with Medical Director’s approval. The Respiratory Therapist also assists in cleaning, maintenance, and disinfection of cardiopulmonary equipment.
Essential Functions
-Recognizes symptoms of cardiac arrest, respiratory distress and/or other impending crises and initiates the necessary medical response.
-Identifies, labels, and dispenses medication and solutions safely and documents patients’ response to pertinent medication.
-Communicates with physicians and accepts verbal, EMAR orders.
-Maintains competencies for department.
-Participates in QA, maintenance, and proficiency of blood samples of blood gas instruments.
-Assesses Patient’s condition prior to and during all exams.
-Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examinations.
-Corroborates patient’s clinic history with procedure.
-Provides care that is appropriate to the patient’s age, education needs, and family/guardian expectations.
-Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives.
-Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
-Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience
-One year of hospital-based experience with in neonatal/pediatric, diagnostic, and critical care preferred.
Education
-Registration through State of Texas Medical Examiners required.
-BLS (Basic Life Support) required upon hire date.
-ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required within 90 days of hire date.
-NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required within 90 days of hire date.
-PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required within 90 days of hire date.
