Position Summary
The RN knows and conforms to the Texas Nursing Practice Act and the Board's rules and regulations as well as all federal, state, and local laws, rules or regulations. The RN provides, without discrimination, nursing services regardless of age, disability, economic status, gender, national origin, race, religion, or health problems of the patient. The RN is responsible and accountable for providing, delegating, and coordinating patient care, ensures that patient care needs, standards of safety, standards of care and patient rights are met, and coordinates plan of care and collaborates with team members to achieve goals of the unit for patient education and discharge planning.
Essential Functions
-Utilize the nursing process.
-Provide immediate stabilization/resuscitation and care to all newborns during and immediately after delivery.
-Demonstrates knowledge and competence in providing ongoing gestational age-appropriate care for well infants as well as those with moderately complex conditions.
-Provides care and transfer of critically ill, less than 32-week gestational age preterm infants, or those that require higher level of care.
- Provides appropriate care/care planning to unit guidelines, designation and national mandates.
-Assess and document infant care according to department guidelines.
-Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of growth and development.
-Provide instruction to parents in care of infant.
-Promote exclusive breastfeeding.
-Administer appropriate medications.
-Manage IV therapy.
-Participate in Process Improvement process.
-Engage in chart audits each month.
-Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives.
-Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
-Provides mother-baby care as appropriate for census and staffing.
- Willingness to take unit call as needed assigned by Director.
- Participates in unit specific quarterly education.
-Advocate of family-centered care.
-Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience
-Nursery/NICU Level II experience preferred.
Education
-Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice in the State of Texas.
-Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
-BLS (Basic Life Support) required upon hire date.
-NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) within 90 days of hire date.
-STABLE within 6 months of hire date.
