Position Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Manager or Registered Nurse, the Unit Clerk performs the duties of receptionist and maintains all time-sensitive clerical/secretarial activities of the nursing unit, answering patient lights, and admission and discharge procedures. The Unit Clerk performs unit needs under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, and functions as the focal communication source in the nursing station to include activation of Stroke, STEMI, and Trauma teams, using good public relations skills.

Position Summary

Essential Functions
- Answers call lights in courteous and timely manner and gets message to appropriate person.
- Answers telephone in courteous and timely manner and directs call appropriately.
- Initiates, assembles and maintains charts as needed for new admits.
- Scans test results into the EMR when necessary.
- Advises nursing staff and physicians of incomplete documentation.
- Makes copies of documentation, in a timely manner, as needed.
- Correctly updates census board regularly during shift.
- Maintains organization in nurse’s station for use by all staff members.
- Orders supplies for unit when necessary.
- Reports off to oncoming staff at shift change.
- Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives.
- Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
- Will act as safety sitter as needed.
- Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience
- One year of clerical and medical terminology experience preferred.
- Clerical and medical terminology experience preferred.
- Basic computer experience preferred.
- Legible handwriting and ability to spell, ability to read and write English preferred.
- Utilize effective oral and written communication skills preferred.
- Performance of simple math calculations preferred.
Education
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) within 30 days of hire date required.
