Job Summary:
The Yard Supervisor is responsible for the efficient and safe management of trailer movement and yard operations. This includes coordinating trailer placement, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining a well-organized yard. The shift for this position is Wednesday - Saturday, 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Trailer Management:
- Move trailers on company property and occasionally deliver products locally.
- Organize and prioritize trailer placement in collaboration with Outbound and Inbound Coordinators.
- Successfully place equipment at doors, chock tires, and set trailer jacks.
- Transport trailers between two facilities (across the street).
- Safely maneuver tractor-trailer combinations in a compact yard.
- Pull equipment from doors, close doors, and ensure proper seal attachment.
- Yard Operations & Safety:
- Administer all yard operations and ensure compliance with safety policies.
- Maintain a neat and clean yard.
- Perform surveys and analyze results to implement safe work procedures.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of materials.
- Equipment & Maintenance:
- Operate powered industrial equipment (forklifts) with proper certifications.
- Perform routine and non-routine equipment maintenance; report issues to the Terminal Manager.
- Complete daily inspection of jockey truck; report maintenance issues.
- Inventory & Supplies:
- Monitor inventory of yard supplies and place purchase orders.
- Inspection & Reporting:
- Inspect merchandise for damage or unsafe alterations; report findings to management.
- Maintain processes and procedures in accordance with company regulations and safety standards.
- Other:
- Other projects and tasks as assigned by management.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Basic computer skills.
- Flexibility in work hours.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance.
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specified location.
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
- Valid Driver’s License. CDL license highly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to see and hear; specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work in a non-refrigerated environment (40°F to 80°F) and both inside and outside.
- Ability to enter and exit the driver's compartment of a truck.
- Ability to move frequently, stand, walk, and sit.
- Ability to use hands to touch, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment with moderate noise levels and in all types of weather.
