Registered Nurse

Summary

Under direction of the Nurse Manager and/or the Director of Nursing, The Registered Nurse is responsible to perform a range of technical and complex duties in order to coordinate and provide direct and indirect nursing care for patient within a given nursing unit. Additionally, the Registered Nurse participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.

Job Duties

• Provide complete, comprehensive assessment of the patient on admission to the Nursing Unit
• Initiate, implement and/or update the written plan of care reflecting current standards of nursing practice
• Participate in patient and family teaching
• Initiate discharge planning
• Deliver quality nursing care by attending to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient
• Administer medications according to established policy and procedure and note reactions
• Initiate and maintain intravenous therapy
• Transcribe orders and assist the physician with treatment and/or procedures
• Provide respiratory therapy treatments as necessary/ordered
• Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients such as cardiac arrest
• Communicate effectively with physicians, coworkers, patients and their families, as well as staff from other departments in the Hospital

Qualifications/Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing and current licensure by the Pennsylvania Board of Nursing
• Current American Heart Association/American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
• Certification in Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
