Minimum Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; pharmacy technician licensure (state) required, or current enrollment in a college of pharmacy (intern).
- Pharmacy technician certification (national) required within 6 months of hire date
Minimum Work Experience
Two years of previous pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required. Retailpharmacy technician experience considered positive. Enrollment in college of pharmacy sufficient (intern).
Required Skills
Knowledge and Skill : Follows general instructions. Understand several defined work routines. Reads various references, extract information, and applies basic arithmetic functions. May operate basic equipment. Knowledge of basic medical and pharmaceutical terminology and basic pharmacy calculations / equivalents required.Problem Solving / Decision Making : Makes decisions by reviewing defined alternatives. Essentials Functions
The technician will work primarily in the Emergency Department and on the inpatient nursing units.The basic function will be to obtain accurate home medication histories by chart review, patient interview and phone calls to retail pharmacies.Other duties will include updating computerized home medication data bases and reconciling these lists to orders written upon admission to the hospital. Additional duties may be assigned by the Director of Pharmacy or designee.Security - Is authorized to have access to areas where drugs and biologicals are stored.ORGANIZATIONAL EXPECTATIONS
