Operations Manager
Role and Responsibilities
Operational Leadership: Provide both tactical and strategic direction under the guidance of the Plant Manager to maintain the safe and efficient management of the facility. Areas of responsibility will include Dryers, Supervisors, and Control Room Personnel. Monitor and analyze production metrics, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions, ensuring alignment with the Plant Manager's vision and objectives.
Staff Management: Lead, motivate, and hold accountable a diverse team of over 100 employees, while collaborating closely with the Plant Manager to ensure team goals align with overall plant strategy. Conduct performance evaluations, oversee capacity-building initiatives, and foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement that supports the Plant Manager's vision.
Safety and Environmental Compliance: Collaborate with the EHS Manager and Plant Manager to conduct safety audits, drills, and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Ensure strict adherence to all environmental and safety regulations, taking proactive measures to remain in compliance with applicable laws as directed by the Plant Manager.
Production Oversight: Develop and maintain production schedules to meet organizational goals and customer demands, working closely with the Plant Manager to ensure operational strategies are executed effectively. Analyze production data to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for optimization in alignment with plant-wide initiatives.
Equipment and Maintenance Management: Coordinate with maintenance teams to develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules. Ensure machinery remains operational, minimizing downtime and enhancing production efficiency, as prioritized by the Plant Manager.
Inventory Control: Oversee the management of raw materials and finished products to ensure proper tracking, availability, and accuracy. Support long-term operational and financial planning in coordination with the Plant Manager’s directives.
Communication and Collaboration: Serve as a key communication point for the leadership team, staff, and cross-functional departments, ensuring alignment on production goals, updates, and company initiatives under the Plant Manager’s guidance.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Lead efforts to implement process improvements, optimize operational efficiencies, and drive cost-reduction strategies, contributing to the overall success of the organization while supporting the Plant Manager’s strategies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience in a related field will also be considered.
- Five or more years of experience in manufacturing or plant operations, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities. Preferably in the wood industry but not required. Candidates with experience in related manufacturing industries will also be considered.
- Strong knowledge of wood processing, pelletizing equipment, or related manufacturing technologies is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to lead high-performing teams, manage budgets, and oversee production schedules.
- Strong understanding of safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA standards and best practices.
- Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret data and make strategic recommendations.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, including occasional extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Physical capability to work in demanding conditions, including standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
