So, we invest in our people, just like they invest in us!What's The Opportunity : Reporting to the Director, Operations Legal – Project Execution and Claims, we are seeking a seasoned lawyer to join our team on a full-time basis. This individual will provide representation, guidance, and advice on Aecon's ongoing projects.What You'll Do : Key ResponsibilitiesProvide advice on a range of contractual issues during project execution and post-execution phases.Identify potential risks associated with projects and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.Liaise between business unit / project leaders and external counsel on complex claims and litigation files.Liaise with joint venture legal committees.Actively manage and give instructions to external counsel on claims and litigation files.What You Bring to The TeamRequired Knowledge and ExperienceMember in good standing with the Law Society in the jurisdiction of practice.Post-call legal experience : 5-10 years.Experience with complex commercial and / or construction-related litigation.Civil engineering background and / or fluency in French are assets, but not required.Construction and / or engineering industry experience, including with respect to contracts, are assets, but not required.Verbal reasoning skills, ability to interpret the precise meaning of written documents such as contracts, legislation, and case decisions.Necessary CompetenciesTo be successful in this role, the candidate will demonstrate the following competencies : Stakeholder Management : Strong demonstrated ability to influence with and without direct authority.Business Acumen : Knows how the businesses work.Adaptive Thinking : Critical thinking capability by applying sound analysis and logical reasoning to evaluate ideas, decisions, and outcomes.Decision Making : Makes sound decisions involving the most complex information and dynamic situations.Influencing : Positively influences colleagues to take decisions and actions that ultimately benefit the organization.Problem Solving : Uses logic and techniques to solve complex problems with effective solutions.Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills and legal drafting skills.Risk assessment and risk mitigation skills : Ability to identify risks / issues and offer practical commercially appropriate solutions to manage / mitigate risks.Character : Integrity, Humility, Transparency, Courage, Drive, Energy, Passion, Confidence.Aecon fosters diversity, inclusion and belonging within and across our organization.
