A PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed healthcare professional who provides specialized nursing care to patients who have recently undergone surgical procedures. This role typically involves the following duties and responsibilities : Monitoring patients : The PACU RN continually monitors patients' vital signs, level of consciousness, and other physical and psychological responses to ensure they are stable and free from any adverse reactions. Administering medications : The PACU RN may be responsible for administering medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician, monitoring patients' responses and adjusting treatments as necessary. Assisting with pain management : The PACU RN provides patients with pain management techniques and medications to ensure they remain as comfortable as possible during the post-operative period. Communicating with surgeons and anesthesiologists : The PACU RN works closely with surgeons and anesthesiologists to communicate any changes in patients' conditions, and to ensure that patients receive appropriate care following surgical procedures. Documenting patient care : The PACU RN is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of patients' post-operative conditions, treatments, and responses, and communicating this information to other healthcare professionals as needed.
