JOB TITLE : Residence Supervisor
I. Minimum Education / Experience
Associate degree in a related human services field or one (1) year experience or equivalent combination of experience or education. Preference given to those applicants with experience working with persons with developmental disabilities in an ICF / IDD.
II. Essential Job Functions
- Maintain at all times a valid driver's license and an "acceptable" driving record and be responsible for driving Center vans or other vehicles. Report all traffic citations to the personnel office immediately and in writing.
- Responsible for ensuring that staff empathize with residents and treat them as valued individuals.
- Direct supervision of residence staff.
- Implement and recommend policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors or Administration and ensure that staff properly carry out all policies and procedures.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Recommend residence staff for promotions, merit increases and evaluate the employee's performance, which includes six-month conditional employment period, annual employee evaluations and disciplinary actions.
- Initiate disciplinary actions deemed appropriate in accordance with established personnel policies and procedures.
- Provide employees with counseling regarding job performance which includes praise and constructive criticism.
- Establish daily work routines for residence staff and provide direct "on the floor" supervision of staff in carrying out said routines, residents' personal care, and habilitation programs.
- Maintain an effective system of communications with staff, Residence Manager, parents, and other departments.
- Requisition any supplies, equipment and maintenance needed by the residence. Complete and submit maintenance requests immediately.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings and submit minutes to Residence Manager and the President.
- In cases of emergency involving the welfare of the residents, make the necessary arrangements, contact the proper authorities, notify the Residence Manager and President in a timely manner.
- Maintain and provide adequate staff coverage for their residence.
- Structure, plan and implement recreational activities and other spontaneous leisure time activities.
- Assign residence staff housekeeping assignments and other related duties.
- Submit a written monthly report to the Residence Manager within the required time frame.
- Ensure that residence staff carry out and implement approved programmatic habilitation programs.
- Conduct daily verbal reports at change of shifts with rounds to ensure that assigned tasks have been completed and communication of needs and progress of residents has occurred.
- Responsible for keys assigned.
- Conduct monthly fire drills and document.
- Assign staff to assist with taking residents to doctors, lab and hospital as needed.
- Maintain an effective, safe, and productive working environment and maintain preventive health care practices for the residents.
- Ensure that each occurrence of seizures, residents' contacts, and accidents, etc., are documented on appropriate forms and within an appropriate time frame.
- Deal with parental concern regarding clothes, resident supervision, staff, special requests, activities, or care given to residents in an appropriate manner.
- In conjunction with the Residence Manager, orient new staff members.
- Ensure that staff are safety conscious relative to themselves and residents.
- Responsible for driving Center vans or other vehicles.
- Routinely lift up to 40 pounds independently and routinely lift from 41 to 140 pounds with the assistance of one additional person.
- Provide personal care to residents.
- Provide and participate in routine and assigned housekeeping duties.
- Assist with nursing procedures and treatment as needed or indicated.
- Provide and ensure quality supervision and interaction with residents.
- Provide and participate in implementation and planning of habilitation training programs through the interdisciplinary team process.
- Provide and conduct in-service training for staff in areas of expertise.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Assume mandatory needs as required up to an additional eight (8) hours.
