The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing analytical and technical assistance to the Water/Wastewater Facilities through performance of physical, chemical and microbiological analysis. Tests are performed to determine compliance with state and federal regulations. This position works under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
- Collects water/wastewater samples and performs chemical and microbiological analysis using proper sampling and preserving techniques using various analytical instruments.
- Performs instrument maintenance by checking instruments and equipment, recalibrates, prepares for use and reports problems to Supervisor.
- Collects and preserve samples to send to outside labs for testing.
- Performs testing according to the state and EPA laboratory requirements.
- Follows quality control procedures and maintains EPA certifications.
- Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor prepares reagents, medias, titration standards, and dilutions as required in the course of performance of laboratory duties.
- Keeps Supervisor appraised of chemical reagents, equipment, and operating supplies in short supply.
- Prepares and maintains daily analytical bench sheets and reports for permanent records that can be made available for audit.
- Abide by all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as all company safety procedures.
- Commit to the overall safety of the work environment by always taking extra precautions to work with the utmost care and consideration.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Consistently produces quality products and service.
- Completes all training within required timeline.
- Performs all work in a safe and secure manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a laboratory analyzing water or wastewater samples.
- Associate Degree in Chemistry or Microbiology or a closely related field preferred; Extensive experience in lieu of education may be considered.
- This position requires knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment and techniques of chemical and microbiological analysis pertaining to water and wastewater treatment.
- This position requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Computer skills are necessary.
- Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
- Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
- Must possess the ability to work in a high-volume office area and interface in a positive manner with co-workers and the customer.
- Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
- Performs all assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and directives.
- Displays courtesy and skill in dealing with internal and external customers, coworkers, and management.
- Accurately maintains and updates records to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting ability or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
- Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.

- Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
- Employees will be required to work on top of buildings, in mechanical rooms, outdoors, etc. to do routine maintenance and repairs. This requires but is not limited to carrying ladders, being in small spaces over periods of time, and being able to work at all heights.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
- Physical activities include standing, sitting, repetitive motions, reaching, and other activities in a laboratory setting.
- Position may be subjected to chemicals, fumes, temperature changes, noises, working in inclement weather, and hazards in a wastewater facility.
- Some after hours and weekend work may be required.
- Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer's mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
- Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license to operate a company vehicle.
- Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
- Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
