ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, develops, and organizes lesson plans and daily class-work in a manner that will ensure adequate coverage within the time frame allotted for the discipline content and skill required to meet approved course outlines and curriculum objectives.
- Conducts classroom instruction using modern professional teaching principles, practices, and techniques appropriate to the subject matter.
- Trains and encourages students to develop skills in critical thinking and making maximum use of educational learning centers.
- Maintains a keen awareness of student progress to determine the need for students who have learning difficulties.
- Maintains individual and class records of each student by documenting all educational assessments, progress and class reviews/summaries in each student's education files which are charted in their respective available electronic health charting system.
- Consults with multi-disciplinary team members regarding behavior problems to the multi-disciplinary team.
- Works independently with other specialists, teachers, parents, schools and guardians concerning student problems.
- Provide professional academic instruction, assessment, and interpretation, delivery and interpretation of academic progress.
- Communicates with clients, their families, hospital staff, tribal agencies, law enforcement, probation, school district staff, community counselors, and other outside resources and providers.
- Analyzes how a student's strengths and limitations affect his/her involvement and progress in the academic curriculum and determines short-term objectives or alternate achievement standards if necessary.
- Plans, coordinates, administers, and implements the curricula for courses in an established subject matter.
- Determines educational learning objectives, provides guidance to students and staff and identifies individual student needs.
- Reviews and evaluates curriculum for clarity, educational adequacy, and accomplishment of objectives. Identifies topics for direct instruction and prepares the appropriate lesson plans.
- Follows FDIHB, ACU, Regional Behavioral Health, CMS Federal and State regulations, and tribal policies and procedures for specific standards of care for services in the Adolescent Care Unit.
- Reviews a variety of sources including libraries and catalogs to find the most relevant educational materials. Identifies advantages and disadvantages of using materials. Determine needs and suitability of materials for the use in the program.
- Maintains, evaluates, consults with ACU staff and updates existing student library and behavior incentive program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Two (2) years of direct work experience.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Education
Current, valid Special Education License
Current, valid Special Education certification in any of the following areas:
Mild-Moderate Disabilities or Severe and Profound Disabilities or similar.
Must obtain and maintain a Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Certification withing three (3) months after hire.
