ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As a licensed physician, the position will provide healthcare services. This position will also serve as an internal medicine physician.
  • Provide all necessary medical care services to patients at Tséhootsooí Medical Center with Inpatient/Outpatient Infectious Disease consultation.
  • Expert in diagnosing, managing and treatment of acute (sudden) and chronic diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites and prions. To include, new or emerging infections or infections that change over time.
  • Provide medical guidance and is the Subject Matter Expert (SME), particularly on infectious disease or epidemiology, based on events such as a pandemic, epidemic, clusteror outbreak.
  • Provide medical diagnosis, appropriate preventive (including immunization and chemoprophylaxis), diagnostic, and post-exposure measures such as antibiotics, etc.
  • Provide environmental, occupational, and host factors that predispose to infection, as well as basic principles of epidemiology and transmission of infections.
  • Monitors the occurrence of reportable and emerging diseases, analyzes infectious and chronic disease trends and combines surveillance data along with social determinants of health data to create a thorough and comprehensive analysis of the health of the community.
  • Investigate reportable conditions, analyze disease trends and respond to outbreaks.
  • Effectively diagnose and treat acute illnesses, such as bacterial and viral infections, as well as chronic diseases and conditions, such as hypertension, heart disease or diabetes; and suggest a successful course of treatment considering at the same time, the cultural sensitive care of the patient.
  • Provide Inpatient/Outpatient care of HIV-infected adults, including provision of primary care services.
  • Explain procedures, discuss test results and prescribed treatment with patients.
  • Determine if a patient needs to have language interpretation of treatment or tests.
  • Prescribe and administer medications and/or immunizations against preventable diseases.
  • Provide health and wellness advice to patients, including diet, physical activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.
  • Monitor patients' condition and progress, and re-evaluating treatments, as necessary.
  • Establish and provide support and advice to patients (and families) receiving long-term, comprehensive care considering at the same time, culturally sensitive care to patients and manage both common and complex diseases.
  • Responsible for care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment for ambulatory or hospitalized patients.
  • Provide diagnostic, assessment, evaluation and clinical management of on-going treatment necessary for referral to other medical specialists, when necessary.

  • Responsible for care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment for ambulatory or hospitalized patients.
  • Provide diagnostic, assessment, evaluation and clinical management of on-going treatment necessary for referral to other medical specialists, when necessary.
  • Completes effective and timely verbal communication with patients’ primary care physician at various stages, such as admission, care conferences with families, change in patient condition and upon discharge.
  • Contacts and consults with patients’ pertinent medical contacts to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans.
  • Maintain and record detailed notes of appointments with patients, including comments, tests results and/or treatments prescribed.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with other medical providers, outside departmental teams and/or agencies engaged in assessment and disease control initiatives.
  • Prepare official health documents or records, when necessary.
  • Consultant to the Infection Control Committee in accordance with state and local requirements alongside FDIHB Infection Prevention/ Employee Health Department.
  • Provide Infection Prevention/ Employee Health/ Quality Management medical consultation/oversight, as needed.
  • Consultant to the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee (ASC).
  • Serves as Co-Laboratory Director, co-responsible for the operations and administration of FDIHB Laboratory Services.
  • Ensure that duties in FDIHB Laboratory Services are properly performed and applicable to CLIA regulations.
  • Ensure that FDIHB Laboratory Services develops and uses a quality system approach to laboratory testing that provides accurate and reliable patient test results.
  • Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for consultation of public health inquiries and community related infectious diseases.
  • Provide timely consultation to requesting physicians and other hospital services.
  • Provide day-to-day patient contact, rounding, and care management that actively encourages and includes professional input from members of FDIHB Medical Staff.
  • Completes all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements.
  • Documents patient diagnosis, treatment, orders and clinical progress properly and correctly in order to allow for proper and correct billing.
  • Advises hospital and assists with the implementation of approved evidence-based best practices, protocols and pathways that result in improved quality of care.
  • Maintain all principles of confidentiality, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to ensure appropriate maintenance of all privacy related issues.
  • Participates in FDIHB Medical Staff’s Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) in accordance with FDIHB
    Medical Staff Bylaws, as amended.
  • Advises and/or responds to media inquiries and requests for interviews in responding to a pandemic, epidemic, cluster or outbreak in accordance with FDIHB Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • No additional experience required outside of a completed training program as identified in the education qualifications listed below.

Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited School of Medicine or School of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program.
  • Completion of an accredited Infectious Disease Fellowship Program.

 License/ Certifications:

  • Active, unrestricted Medical License from any U.S. State or Territory.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified by an approved American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).
