Well Spring Automation is based in Midland, TX with operations primarily across West Texas and NM. Work with key oil & gas companies and become a valuable part of the team assisting with onsite completion or production activities. Well Spring Automation provides automation and automation services to the oil and gas industry. We are a leader in developing cutting-edge sensor and automation control systems that help to reduce costs and increase safety in our clients' operations. Our operations are rapidly expanding to include automation, water management, water transfer, drill out, and flow back services.
The Automation Manager is based out of Midland Texas and will manage the Automation department.
This role will be responsible for Managing the Automation Department including planning, designing, testing and maintenance of automation and electrical systems and equipment, in their assigned geographical area. This is a working Management position, who will also provide guidance and work duties to the Automation technician(s) and I&E Technicians.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff.
- Oversees the schedules and responsibilities of staff in the department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Oversees the daily work activities of the office.
- May handle or assist with discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage all facets of automation maintenance program supporting company pipeline and facility operations.
- Working closely with the Operations Foremen and Automation Department on troubleshooting and resolving automation issues.
- Working closely with electrical contractors to coordinate high voltage work, as may be necessary.
- Develop and manage an automation preventative maintenance program.
- Utilize systems to manage and document maintenance activities.
- Work with I&E and automation personnel as needed to maintain I/O from device, through PLCs and into SCADA systems.
- Day-to-day reactive maintenance and repair, including hands on troubleshooting, as well as contractor management and work/quality inspection.
- Supervising Automation Technicians through motivation, training, and development, to achieve a safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation.
- Proactively identifying potential or developing field issues and alerting managers for proactive remediation.
- Assisting Capital Projects Team in commissioning efforts for Pipeline, SWD and other start-ups.
- Assisting with commissioning of transfer skids and new customer connections
- Maintain video monitoring system equipment and support Operations and IT organization.
- Providing remote and on-site support for automation issues at locations.
- Ensuring compliance with Company policies and safety requirements and protocols.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have the ability and willingness to spend long hours in the field during critical activities.
- MS Office proficiency and high level of comfort with computers and various technology.
- Highly skilled in the following areas: problem solving, task prioritization, active listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Self-starter/self-learner that demonstrates clear accountability and can adapt easily whether working independently or with a team.
- Strong sense of urgency and sound judgment.
- Must possess a strong work ethic, ability to manage multiple projects and staff simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Qualification Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma. Two-year degree or completion of trade school preferred
- Minimum of 8-10 years of directly related Oil and Gas industry work experience.
- 5-8 years of supervisory and management experience with prior automation and/or field instrumentation and electrical experience required.
- I&E experience prefered.
- Experience with SCADA integration or comparable programs is also needed for this role.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to regularly perform physical tasks such as entering a confined space, operating large valves, climbing stairs and ladders, and walking long distances.
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions. Must be able to frequently climb ladders, crawl, crouch and kneel occasionally.
- Frequent lifting required up to 50 lbs with average lifting of up to 25 lbs. Walking/pushing/pulling are also frequently required. Operates a vehicle at least 70% of the time.
- Must be willing to work outside of normal business hours and have a flexible schedule.
- Candidate must possess valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel as needed up to 75%.
