GENERAL SUMMARY
The position is responsible for the management, technical direction, and organization of new product development and commercial engineering activities. This role involves approximately 8-10 professionals, including engineering leaders, mechanical engineers, lab technicians, and project managers, located at our HQ in Rockford, IL. This position will report into VP of Product Management and Innovation.
The scope of responsibility is to oversee Product Design Engineering, Analytical Engineering (FEA/CFD) and Engineering Services (Design Process, CAD, Engineering Lab). Individual must place significant emphasis on collaborating with Internal Stakeholders such as our India Design Center, UK Design Center, Sales & Marketing as well as key customers with a high sense of urgency.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management: Model and promote the HT Leadership Standards to create an environment that mobilizes empowered people to achieve business objectives. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the engineering team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment with a high sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment. Oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluations to build and develop a high-performing team through Talent Management.
Strategic Planning: Develop and implement engineering strategies that align with company goals, driving product development and process improvements. Collaborate with senior management to set technical direction and priorities.
New Product Development & Growth: Drive business growth by leading the development and launch of innovative new products. Ensure timely execution of New Product Development (NPD) initiatives, meeting market demands and customer expectations.
Technology Development: Spearhead advancements in engineering technology and innovation, keeping the company at the forefront of industry trends. Identify opportunities to integrate emerging technologies into product development and manufacturing processes.
Budget Management: Prepare and manage the engineering department's budget, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation and adherence to financial targets.
Process Improvement: Establish and enforce engineering best practices, processes, and standards to enhance operational efficiency and product quality. Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements to drive continuous improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as Product Management, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Marketing and Sales, to ensure cohesive efforts toward company objectives. Represent the engineering function in executive meetings and contribute to strategic decision-making.

What do you need?
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical Preferred); a Master's degree or MBA is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years in engineering roles with some experience in overseeing diverse and geographically dispersed teams.
Preferred Experience: Hands-on experience in 5 years in hydraulic systems and components products for heavy lifts (Hydraulic Pumps and Hydraulic Jacks) and exposure to electronic control systems.
Technical Expertise: Strong background in hydraulic technologies (10KPSI ), ASME Pressure Vessel Code and Structural/Material Analysis or related fields, with a solid understanding of Stage-Gate Process.
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing engineering strategies that drive business success.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
Project Management: Strong organizational skills with a track record of managing complex projects and meeting deadlines.
Global Perspective: Experience working with international teams and understanding of global engineering practices and standards.
