We are currently seeking a Fire Watch position to work at our Axis, AL location:

Schedule: Rotating Shifts 12 hours

Overview:
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Firewatch to join our team at TMS International. As a Firewatch, your primary responsibility will be to ensure a safe working environment by monitoring for potential fire hazards during hot work operations within the steel mill. Your role will be critical in supporting our commitment to safety, accident prevention, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor and observe hot work areas for signs of fire, sparks, or other potential fire hazards.
• Maintain a constant vigil while welding, grinding, cutting, or other high-heat operations are taking place.
• Immediately report any fire hazards or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
• Ensure fire safety equipment (fire extinguishers, hoses, etc.) is accessible and fully operational.
• Conduct regular checks of surrounding areas for combustible materials that may be at risk.
• Assist in evacuations and emergency response actions when necessary.
• Document daily activities, observations, and any fire-related incidents.
• Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
• Support safety training and educational initiatives for team members.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience in a similar Firewatch or safety role within an industrial or construction environment preferred.
• Ability to recognize and respond to fire hazards and emergencies quickly.
• Familiarity with basic fire safety equipment and protocols.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Must be able to work in physically demanding environments (heat, loud noises, heavy machinery).
• Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods of time.
• OSHA 10 or 30 Hour Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
• Must pass a drug screening and background check.
