General Description:
Tennessee School for the Blind currently is seeking an English Language Arts Instructional Coach for the purpose of this job is to lead Tennessee School for the Blind efforts to increase achievement and growth for all students and the implementation of district frameworks by mentoring, coaching, and assisting teachers with planning, classroom strategies and best practices.
The instructional coach is designed to provide support for teachers in the classroom, as well as to encourage professional leadership roles for teachers in our district. The coach works side-by-side with teachers to improve student learning outcomes. This job reports to the building Principal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Works closely with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement intervention plans for students, and to provide training and support on best practices for RTI implementation.
· Responsible for implementing and managing the school's RTI process, including identifying students who may be at risk for academic difficulties, determining appropriate interventions, and monitoring student progress.
· Serves as a content advisor to teachers and administrators.
· Assists teachers in organizing classrooms and selecting appropriate and meaningful materials for effective instruction, while grounding the work in district curriculum guides. Develops and maintains weekly schedules to support teachers. Ninety percent of time must be spent in Teaching and Learning in the following ways:
1. Implementing student-centered coaching with excellence
2. Partnering with teachers to improve student learning.
3. Providing effective, targeted, and actionable feedback
4. Promoting and supporting effective teacher practices, including in remote and hybrid learning environments
· Maintains accurate and consistent documentation of residencies, team meetings and PLCs.
· Maintains appropriate licensure and acknowledges that continued employment with the TN. Department of Education, State Special Schools is contingent upon providing required documentation to validate licensure in a timely manner.
· Implements district, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws.
· Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, educational conferences, and other activities that promote professional growth and student achievement.
· Works collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff.
· Attends work and arrives at work on time.
· Maintains confidentiality.
· Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
· Encourages learning, growth and achievement and demonstrates life-long learning of best practices.
· Establishes positive rapport with administration and staff.
· Attends and participates in all required meetings.
· Attends all summer professional learning sessions. Continues professional growth and strengthens professional teaching, knowledge, skills, and strategies through an ongoing program of workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advance course work.
· Must be able to work additional days past the regular school year (minimum 10 additional days dependent on funding).
· May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities.
Other Functions
· Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
· Supports other classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualification
· Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with certification as specified by state and federal standards for the teaching position held. master’s degree is preferred.
· Requires a TN teacher license as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired. If no current Visually Impaired certification must be willing to obtain one, beginning an approved program within the first two years of employment.)
· Must have or be willing to obtain ESL endorsement within a specified period.
· Experience working with a wide range of students with visual impairments, including students with different visual impairments, additional disabilities, and complex learning needs.
· Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills
SKILLS are required to effective verbal and written communication skills to convey complex ideas and concepts to students. Plan and deliver engaging lessons, assess student learning, and adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Manage classroom behavior, maintain a positive and respectful learning environment, and ensure student safety. Build relationships with students, colleagues, and parents, and to provide individualized support and feedback. Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and maintain accurate records and reports. Familiarity with educational technology, including learning management systems, online resources, and digital tools. Analyze problems, identify solutions, and adapt to changing circumstances. Work with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning and achieve school goals.
KNOWLEDGE is required to have an In-depth understanding of ELA content areas, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening, as well as literary theory and analysis. Familiarity with local, state, and national ELA standards. Knowledge of formative and summative assessment practices, as well as various assessment tools and literacy interventions. Awareness of the latest research in ELA education, literacy development, and instructional best practices. Understanding of the role that culture plays in language and literacy development, and strategies for meeting the needs of diverse student populations.
ABILITY is required to arrange plans for activities, meetings, or events; collect, organize, and categorize information; and operate necessary tools and machinery for work tasks. Having the ability to adapt is necessary when collaborating with others in various situations, interpreting data through specific yet varied methods, and using standardized procedures to operate equipment. Capability is necessary to interact with a variety of people and/or teams, handle different types of data for various purposes, and use specialized equipment related to the job. Problem solving is necessary to examine problems and develop strategies for action. Solving problems using data often involves interpreting guidelines independently, while problem-solving with equipment is typically of moderate difficulty.
