35 hours, 12 months, 260 days
FLSA: Exempt
Contract Unit: This position is part of the non-supervisory support services bargaining unit.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation preferred.
Fluency in Haitian Creole and English with ability to effectively translate and interpret.
Skilled in the associated cultural dynamics with the ability to provide cultural competence to aid in communication.
Experience supporting multi-lingual and immigrant families in community or school setting.
Leadership skills and personal qualifications necessary to work successfully with students,
teachers, administrators, parents, and the community.
Willingness and capacity to work beyond the traditional workday
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the EL Family Coordinator, plans and participates in activities and programs that connect EL families to schools and community resources.
Provide communication access to students and families who speak Haitian Creole.
Serve as a liaison between various cultural communities and WCPS.
Coordinate interpretation and translation between school personnel and parents.
Facilitate an understanding of the graduation requirements, attendance policies, and conduct expectations of the school system.
Refer students and their families to outside resources, that are not directly available through the schools.
Promote and support multi-lingual family engagement and enrichment events both on and off school property.
Support schools in creating supportive and culturally responsive environments that foster strong parent and school partnerships.
Maintain confidentiality.
Other related duties as assigned.
