Home and Hospital Special Education Teachers are part-time, non-contracted employees who are hired on a per student basis. A Wicomico County teacher may also serve as a home and hospital teacher.

$ 35/hour No benefits.
Hours
Ten-month contractual position, on-call basis. Up to 27 hours per week.
Qualifications
Eligibility for the Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate with special education endorsement.
Must be flexible with regard to working a variety of hours.
Must have reliable transportation for travel throughout the county.
Position Summary
It is the responsibility of the Home Hospital special education teacher to provide specialized services to students on an individual basis in a home, hospital, or community setting in a variety of subject areas and or goals as specified in the students’ IEP for the period of time a referred student is out of school.
Home and Hospital special education teachers act as the liaison between the students, parents, and the home schools to help students remain current with their regular class.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provides appropriate grade level course instruction based on the mandated curriculum in a variety of settings and locations throughout the Wicomico County. Keeps assigned student(s) on pace with the curriculum to prepare student(s) for the eventual return to school.
Utilizes appropriate instructional materials, resources, and technology, to enhance instruction and engage student, while supporting their diverse needs, modifications, and accommodations.
In alignment with the student’s IEP goal(s), services, accommodations, and/or modifications, deliver specially designed instruction as applicable.
Provides the required number of instructional hours and documents all content/curriculum covered at each session.
Provides timely feedback concerning student progress to parents/guardians and secures parental/guardian consent or acknowledgement for each session
Implements positive behavior management strategies to support a positive learning relational environment.
Maintains and logs communication with student's family, school-based point of contact (school counselors, teachers, and IEP case manager/team, as appropriate), and Home and Hospital Teaching (HHT) Dept.
Attends required meetings/trainings by WCPS, HHT Dept, and school-based team, as appropriate.
Follows all procedures and policies in compliance with the state law, HHT Department, and Board of Education Policies.
Completes reports and paperwork in a timely manner.
