POSITION TITLE:    Speech Language Pathologist

WORK STATUS:      182/179-Days; Teacher Salary Schedule

REPORTS TO:         Directors of Special Services & Building Principal

 

POSITION SUMMARY: The Speech Language Pathologist will work with the full range of human communication and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages.  Responsible for evaluating, diagnosing and treating speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders. Ensure eligible, identified students receive programs and services in accordance with the Individualized Education Plan. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Ensure delivery of appropriate services to students.
  2. Develop and maintain compliant Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  3. Conducts speech and language screenings.
  4. Select appropriate speech and language evaluation tests specific to students’ weaknesses, assess skills, and provide a detailed individualized education plan from the evaluation results in collaboration with the diagnostic team.
  5. Collaborate with all special education staff that service students.
  6. Demonstrate leadership and organization skills in developing a schedule to service students as per their IEP.
  7. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  8. Prepare for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superiors.
  9. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  10. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  11. Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives appropriate for meeting goals and stated objectives.
  12. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  13. Assess student progress regularly through ongoing data collection and provide progress reports as required.
  14. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  15. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records in order to provide appropriate documentation for Medicaid Billing duties completed monthly.
  16. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  17. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  18. Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  19. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  20. Accept a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  21. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  22. Establish and maintain cooperative relations with others.
  23. Provide for his or her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  24. Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  1. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of clienteles.
  2. Calm demeanor for handling stressful situations.
  3. Respect for administrators, students, teachers, parents, and support staff.
  4. Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with administrators, teachers, and other colleagues within the district, as well as with outside professional contacts, using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  5. Possess the ability to work effectively and collaborate with various stakeholders.
  6. Ability to accomplish tasks that are often interrupted by persons with special and/or immediate needs.
  7. Ability to report to work consistently and promptly as scheduled.
  8. Knowledge of current speech and language strategies.

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology, Missouri Certification.
  2. American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certified and license maintained through appropriate continuing education, or hold a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) provisional license under the supervision of a mentor.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone/email and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, and repetitive motions. Requires ability to sit and stand for long periods to complete work. Requires ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and ability to work in noisy, stressful, and crowded environments.
