Position: Direct Support Professional for Adults with Disabilities
Reporting to: Director of DDS Services
Contract Terms: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week
Number of Openings: 1
Rate: $19.50/hr based on experience and education
Valley Collaborative is a Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education approved public school entity. Valley also provides Social Security Administration (SSA), Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) and Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) programs for Individuals over the age of 18 with special needs. Valley provides a robust pathway for students to continue their careers beyond high school by providing high quality academic, therapeutic, and vocational services to individuals referred by both local school districts and SSA, DDS, MCB and MRC. We provide programming so Students and Individuals with special needs can reach their educational and/or occupational goals. By sharing its resources with multiple school districts and social service agencies, Valley programs are able to maintain superior quality at reasonable costs to all those it serves while meeting or exceeding state standards.
Essential Functions of the Job:
The person in this role will support Individuals with a wide range of disabilities to support their goals for increased independence. Activities will be tailored to each Individual’s specific interests and needs but take place in group settings. Support goals will be outlined in each Individual Support Plan (ISP). These supports may be delivered in person, remotely or a combination of the two.
Qualifications and Responsibilities:
· Desire to teach, mentor, coach, and advocate for Individuals with disabilities.
· Support Individuals to learn and retain new skills that will help them be more independent in the community.
· Transport Individuals to and from program/activity site using Valley Collaborative’s passenger vans.
· Work with Valley staff to plan, implement, and distribute weekly lesson/activity schedule.
· Utilize feedback from Individuals and staff to help plan and create daily programming.
· Participate in team meetings and trainings as required.
· Provide written reports and evaluations to the appropriate program supervisor on the progress of the Individuals.
· Check equipment and vehicles to ensure safety prior to operation.
· Assist Individuals as needed with meals and other personal care needs.
· Ability to physically support Individuals in navigating program and community sites.
· Flexibility to meet identified Individual/program needs.
· Demonstrate professional attitude in stressful situations.
· A strong commitment to the goals, mission, and philosophy of the organization.
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Travel is required; must have a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
· Experience working with Individuals with disabilities preferred.
· All other duties as assigned.
