What are the responsibilities and job description for the Law Enforcement Intern position at Todd County?
The Law Enforcement Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience and exposure to the day-to-day operations of a law enforcement agency. Interns will work alongside professional staff and sworn peace officers to support various departments and initiatives. Some duties require direct supervision and guidance from a licensed peace officer to ensure legal and safety compliance.

- Assist in boat and water patrol operations.
- Support jail staff with daily activities and administrative functions.
- Collaborate with staff in evidence collection, logging, and storage procedures (under supervision of a licensed peace officer).
- Participate in surveillance on special cases (under supervision of a licensed peace officer).
- Aid in the transport of inmates (as an observer or assistant under direct supervision).
- Scan and organize files to assist the Records Department.
- Work on special assignments, such as compliance checks and property checks, as assigned by Sheriff or Chief Deputy.
- Provide support in ongoing investigations, including data entry, research, and evidence documentation (under supervision of a licensed peace officer as needed).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED.
- The student must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution (minimum of part-time) when applying for the internship or will be enrolled for the fall semester.
- Is limited to two internship placements.
- Must be 18 years old at the start of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or access to transportation.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Basic understanding of criminal justice system and law enforcement procedures
- Knowledge of confidentiality standards and data privacy practices
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols accurately
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general office equipment
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to adapt to different work environments (office, jail, field, etc.)

- Physical ability to assist in field activities such as water patrol or property checks

Physical Requirements
