Position Description
Position Title: Guest Services Associate
Reports to: Director of Retail & Admissions
Type of Employment: Part-time (24 hours per week)
Work Schedule: Flexible including weekend availability and special events
Status: Hourly (Non-exempt, eligible for overtime)
Position Summary Tohono Chul seeks a team-oriented Guest Services Associate who will thrive in a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively with staff and volunteers. This position plays a key role in both the retail and admissions department and the events department. This individual will assist in creating a welcoming and engaging experience for visitors by providing exceptional customer service in both admissions and retail. Responsibilities include greeting and assisting guests, answering questions and using the point of sale to accurately ring up merchandise and admissions. Additionally, this position will assist in the events department with event execution, including setting up and breaking down for both public and private events such as weddings and celebrations of life. The schedule includes daytime shifts in admissions and retail, as well as evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays with events. Working conditions involve outdoor environments, extreme temperatures, lifting, and carrying heavy objects. Primary Responsibilities
· Ensure excellent retail experiences to customers.
· Open and close store and prepare daily reports for manager.
· Process sales transactions using the POS (point-of-sale) register.
· Receive, process, organize and display merchandise in the shops.
· Receive, maintain, manage, and organize merchandise on the shelves.
· Maintain the visual look of the store; cleaning, arranging, stocking the merchandise.
· Understand and speak about the philosophy of the shops and the mission of the park.
· Be informed about new exhibits in galleries and on the grounds.
· Encourage membership through sincere interest in the park.
· Occasional support for various trunk sales and events.
· Other duties as assigned.
· Clean event spaces and set up tables, chairs, av equipment, and linens as specified in set-up sheets, diagrams, and Banquet Event Orders.
· Assist clients in any meeting or event space requirements.
· Always wear proper uniform and nametag and comply with the standards of personal appearance guidelines in the Tohono Chul handbook.
· Responsible for keeping storage spaces organized and all equipment inventory updated including linens, furniture, A/V, etc.
· Complete breakdown of event by cleaning the space and turning equipment to its proper storage space.
· Handle equipment safely and with care; maintain a clean storage area; and ensure all equipment is in good repair.
· Safely move, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects weighing equal to or less than 50 pounds without assistance.
· Safely assist with moving, lifting, carrying and placing objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
· Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces or steps. Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps.
· Operate vehicles, powered equipment, and golf carts.
· Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
· Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
· Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period or for an entire shift.
· Read and visually verify information in a variety of formats (e.g., small print).
· Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.
· Support all coworkers and treat them with respect.
· Able to or willing to learn to relocate snakes appropriately and safely.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· A minimum of one year of experience in a hospitality-related industry, including but not limited to events, retail, admissions, or customer service, with a focus on providing a high level of hospitality and an elevated guest experience.
· Excellent customer service skills.
· Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
· Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and be enthusiastic and flexible on the job.
· Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
· Ability to read and understand diagrams and set up sheets.
· Ability to work independently and as a team member.
· Demonstration of professional behavior and conduct appropriate to the position.
· Desire to show and exhibit a passion for Tohono Chul, its history, and its future.
· Must meet all physical requirements.
· One year experience in Banquet/Special event set up and breakdown.
· Two years’ experience in a retail environment.
· Two years’ cash handling experience.
· Basic understanding of inventory processes.
· Working knowledge of events and banquets.
· Knowledge of the art, natural and cultural history of the Sonoran Desert region.
