Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Establishes adequate controls to administer the per-capita distributions within the Community guidelines; Assists the O'odham in Mexico members with ITIN and payments.
- Monitors individual accounts; plans and organizes beneficiary educational meetings for minors and parents/guardians.
- Coordinates with community leaders in educating members on financial implications and resulting matters.
- Monitors daily transactions and supervises the financial accounts and decisions affecting those accounts on behalf of the incapacitated and protected clients.
- Supervises entitlements for individual clients.
- Prepares reports and represents clients to the proper authority.
- Works closely with assigned external trustee and acts as the community's Liaison on behalf of the clients.
- Maintains a close working relationship with the Community's social services, medical and mental health divisions.
- Supervises the social security/supplemental security benefits accounts for any incapable/incapacitated adult.
- Gathers and prepares data and documents for a variety of financial reports.
- Maintains daily and/or monthly accounts of reports or financial records.
- Expends and reconciles the financial fiduciary budget and other departmental budgets, as assigned.
- Keeps appropriately filed documents for easy retrieval, report processing, and for audit purposes.
- Provides information for audits by reviewing documentation, evaluating activity levels, and monitoring cash receipt activity levels.
- Reviews and analyzes all monies received and ensures posting to the proper accounts.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental and organizational operation and contributes to a team effort.
- Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing guard ship, conservator ship, decent estates, and health care issues.
- Knowledge of fiduciary responsibilities: property and income management; entitlement statues; and the health; education, and personal welfare issues and needs to related to minors, the elderly, incompetents, and indigents.
- Knowledge of generally acted accounting, auditing, and financial principals, and statutes.
- Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
- Skill in understanding and applying complex rules, regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
- Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
- Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs.

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or closely related field, and three years' work experience in financial management, guard ship, conservator ship or probate, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
- Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.
- May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).
- If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.
- Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
