The Accountant performs intermediate accounting work, encompassing processing, recording, and reporting financial transactions to align with the organization's objectives. Additionally, this role oversees payroll functions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
TARTA has recently embarked on a transformational journey with the passage of Issue 12 in 2021. This local sales tax levy has significantly increased the local investment into the transit authority and has also expanded its service area to all of Lucas County and the City of Rossford in Wood County. In response to the local community’s renewed focus and support of TARTA, the Board adopted TARTA Next, a ten-year plan to increase services, invest in capital assets such as new mobility hubs and a zero-emissions bus fleet, and to improve customer experience through investments in technology, bus shelters and signage, and customer outreach. This transformation is well underway and powered by a dedicated team of professionals in each department from the leadership team to every front-line team member.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare basic financial reports and schedules, such as balance sheets, revenue and expense statements, cash flow statements, etc.
- Conduct month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Provide audit schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external auditors.
- Generate journal entries and review purchase orders for accuracy.
- Monitor accounts receivable, accounts payable, and contract payable activities.
- Prepare invoices, expedite invoice payments, and analyze billing invoices for grant-related transactions.
- Analyze federal, state, and local grants to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in developing and updating accounting policies, procedures, manuals, and systems.
- Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll accurately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with administrative and management teams to collect and summarize timekeeping information.
- Ensure accurate payroll/data entry for new employees, changes to employee records, terminations, etc.
- Address employee payroll inquiries and errors, providing support for issue resolution.
- Contribute to special projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
- Five (5) years of relevant experience in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Bank and Credit Card reconciliations, month-end closing.
- Minimum of 3 years of working experience in Sage 500 and ADP WorkforceNow preferred.

Physical Effort Required
The Accountant position requires continuous sitting (5.5–8 hours daily) while standing and walking are performed occasionally (0.25–2.5 hours daily). The role involves occasional bending and stooping (0.25–2.5 hours daily) and lifting/carrying up to 20 lbs. Reaching above shoulder level, pushing, and pulling are not required. Fine manipulation is performed frequently (2.5–5.5 hours daily). Driving is never required. This is considered a moderate stress level position.
