Police Officer

The City of Toledo (Population 2,369) is accepting applications for an opening of a full-time police officer.

The Toledo Police Department consists of seven full-time and three reserve police officers. Full-time patrol officers work 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off. The starting hourly wage for an ILEA certified full-time officer is $27.00. Yearly annual raises are given on the anniversary of hire dates through four years of employment. Other annual increases are determined by the city council. The starting hourly wage for a non-certified full-time officer is $25.00 with a raise to $26.00 after completion of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Yearly annual raises are given on anniversary of certification dates to those that are non-certified at time of hire. Effective July 1, 2024 the Toledo Police Department offers a $1.00 an hour shift differential for night shift. All minimum ILEA standards apply. Preference may be given to ILEA certified candidates. The wage for ILEA certified full-time officers is negotiable based on years of service and experience.

All applicants must pass a background investigation before testing or an interview is offered. Non-certified applicants must pass the POST and ILEA Physical Agility Tests to be considered for an interview. ILEA certified officers will not be required to take the POST or Physical Agility tests. Transfer of POST and MMPI scores will be accepted if done within the last year. Out of state certified applicants will be required to pass certification through examination in Iowa.
