TITLE: Transportation/Maintenance Supervisor


QUALIFICATIONS*:
(R) if required or (P) if preferred

  • Knowledge and experience of organizational systems, office management and administration. (R)
  • Responsible for scheduling staff training, work schedules and resources for transportation, maintenance. (R)
  • Operation systems to include copy center operations, preventative maintenance work order systems, bus routing systems, warehouse supply receiving, invoice management, collection and processing of rental revenues. (R)
  • Budget process and fiscal management to include warehouse requisition systems to maintain adequate supply chain, requisitions, purchase orders and budget reports. (P)
  • High School Diploma or GED. (R)
  • Must possess a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with the ability to obtain an AZ School Bus Driver and Passenger Endorsement including air brake certification. (R)
  • Three years of experience as a school bus driver. (R)
  • Three years prior supervisory experience in the area of operational management, preferably in public education or in the public sector. (P)
  • School Bus Driver Instructor certification. (P)
  • Warehouse experience (P)
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English) (P)

REPORTS TO:
Director of Operations


JOB GOAL:
Under the general direction of the Director of Operations to coordinate the organizational support systems for transportation, warehouse, maintenance, custodial, facility operations, construction, cross walks and safety.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Perform field monitoring of fleet operations and service performance, including the safety and efficiency of routes, bus stops and school-site bus loading zones.
  • Identify potential safety problems and make recommendations to prevent accidents or injuries and minimize District exposure.
  • Identify and locate specific, safe pick-up and drop-off points for door-to-door transportation of special needs and preschool students; create diagrams and/or maps to assist driver.
  • Schedule, organize and supervise State required annual school bus evacuation drills, and maintain required records.
  • Manage Federal Department of Transportation mandated Drug and Alcohol Testing Program for school bus drivers; maintain required records.
  • Maintain TESD school bus drivers' required records according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety regulations.
  • Prepare ADE required annual transportation reports.
  • Investigate all accidents; maintain an accident review and follow-up program so as to ensure student passenger safety and minimize District exposure.
  • Coordinate with staff in planning and presenting school bus driver and bus attendant orientation workshops, and State required in-service training.
  • Advise drivers in the performance of their duties including other duties as assigned.
  • Update facilities, warehouse and transportation policies and safety regulations and procedures as necessary, in consultation with Administrator of Human Resources.
  • Coordinate inspection and road tests of school buses as needed.
  • Respond to parent inquiries, concerns, and requests in a timely manner.
  • Manage Warehouse ordering, receiving, deliveries, and staffing.
  • Manage District’s Copy Center operations and staffing.
  • Evaluate student mobility devices, car seats, and safety restraint systems, and make recommendations re: transportability according to industry best practices standards.
  • Instruct drivers in the correct usage and securement of mobility devices, car seats, and safety restraint systems.
  • If the Supervisor is a Certified Instructor, conduct on-site school bus driver-training activities, perform classroom and behind-the-wheel training for original and renewal school bus driver certificate applicants; evaluate driver behind-the-wheel proficiency as needed.
  • Inspect and (road) test school buses as needed.
  • Perform standard bus driving duties related to special assignments and schedules.
  • Performs and completes other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a 12-month exempt position. Salary is based upon the Classified Exempt Placement Schedule as established by the Governing Board. Employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.
