Purpose and Scope

Tolmar is focused on developing and manufacturing novel long-acting injectable drug products based on a deep understanding of unmet patient needs. The Senior Research Fellow – MS&T will provide life cycle management support for advanced delivery technologies, including biodegradable polymers and nanoparticles, and act as the technical lead for Tolmar’s outsourced commercial products. The Senior Research Fellow will work in close partnership with other Tolmar functions, such as R&D and the Business Development teams, aiming to de-risk new product and life cycle management ideas and deliver proof of concepts for review by management prior to investment.  Provide technical support as needed for technology transfer of polymer manufacturing, spray drying, and finished dosage forms into Tolmar or CMO manufacturing facilities.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for multiple, fast-paced polymer related life cycle management projects.
  • Provide technical support for the transfer of advanced drug delivery technology to manufacturing environments.
  • Support new product development with evaluation of external new products or drug delivery technologies through either academic or external partnerships.
  • Support other MS&T teams by instituting best practices, problem-solving and developing and mentoring team members.
  • Strategic development of life cycle management programs and work plans for Polymer and Contract Manufacturing programs.
  • Provide technical support in an SME role for commercial products.
  • Specify the design requirements and establish key performance criteria to meet LCM project goals.
  • Ensure project outputs are captured and submitted appropriately through technical reports, presentation slides, research and invention disclosures, etc.
  • Communicate outputs and concepts from complex research and provide well-informed strategic recommendations to Tolmar leadership.
  • Provide strategic recommendations in the selection of APIs and excipients.
  • Actively participate in scientific and strategic meetings to deliver expected results according to agreed project scope, cost, quality and timeline milestones.
  • Partner and coordinate with other departments within Tolmar to ensure projects needs are met.
  • Contribute to Tolmar IP and product pipeline strategic decision-making.
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of management.
  • Attend conferences to keep abreast of drug-delivery technology and increase Tolmar's scientific knowledge in new fields.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Strong scientific background with deep knowledge of long-acting injectable drug delivery platforms including polymers.
  • Ability to evaluate scientific literature, company promotional materials and presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and generating intellectual property, leading cross-functional teams, managing complex stakeholders and influencing without direct authority.
  • Ability to understand, work with and provide input to all functions.
  • Effective communication, both written and oral, at all times.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to communicate with senior leadership internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, strategic capabilities and ability to work effectively in complex, rapidly changing environments.
  • Strong project and process management skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative.
  • Proven success working within strategic alliances.

 Education & Experience

  • Ph.D., PharmD, MD or other advanced degree in Science or Medicine.   
  • Ten or more years' experience in an R&D or MS&T role in the regulated medical device or pharmaceutical industry.

Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required up to 20%.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Pay: $200,000 to $220,000, depending on experience
  • Bonus eligible

Tolmar compensation programs are focused on equitable, fair pay practices including market-based base pay and a strong benefits package. The final compensation offered may vary from the posted range based on the selected candidates qualifications and experience.
